Not much in this site

Eh? Well, some of us are pretty much too busy to game. I guess some game theory and such and such could go in, but meh.

And perhaps we have other problems too.

We’re watching you, Mr Nezumi

The L5R August Watchlist has been published. Here it is:

  • Chitik
  • Gift of Rice
  • Shadowed Path to Victory
  • Unexpected Find
  • Sezaru’s Burden

So, maybe everyone’s favourite Ratling is about to get his comeuppance. And I don’t think anyone can be surprised about Unexpected find.

Any errata will be made in time for Worlds.

In other news, could we have a L5R category please, mr site owner?

Broken Wave City

This is going to be one of two posts on the subject of the new Mantis cards in Rise of the Shogun. No, don’t worry, I’m not gonna do this for all the factions. Mantis get special treatment due to being 323% more awesome than any other faction (29991% more awesome than Phoenix). I might do a brief post on the Nezumi and Shadowlands cards, mind.

This will probably be a fairly long post (and the next one will be longer), so I’ll hide it behind a nice more tag, so you can all ignore it.

Pirate Problems

Well, we don’t have an L5R category, so Unclassified this is.

I’m after some opinions. One of the famous early “good pirates” for the Mantis Aramasu’s Pride deck was Yoritomo Tokaro. The important thing about him is his ability:

Raid Battle: If Tokaro is attacking during a Raid battle, bow him: Target a Holding controlled by the Defender and a Personality who has not been opposed this attack. Lose 2 Honor. The Defender may give you control of the Holding. If you gain it, move the Personality home and bow him; otherwise, destroy the Personality after the attack ends.

Now my question is simple, in an environment where misdirection is commonplace (it’s seen in Scorpion, Crane and even some Mantis builds), do I bother using Tokaro? To explain better the problem, Misdirection can be used to target one of my own people with Tokaro’s action, thus giving my opponent the option to kill one of my guys. It strikes me there will be a lot of cases where I dare not use Tokaro, so should I use him in a deck?

To the Nationals-Mobile!

So, today is Nationals - well, LCQs anyway, and in less than half an hour I’ll be leaving.

I’m going to be playing an innovative deck known only as ‘Not a Zurr’, with the awesome power of cerebral vortex.

Wish me luck.

Rogues and 1.12: Too little, too late?

It looks to me like too little too late. It’s done the obvious things (like combining Rapid and Camo) but there’s not much mention of real core ability changes, which are needed more than Talent changes. There’s also no indication of fixing the stupid requirement of the 34 required talents just to use daggers (yes, Dagger rogues have exactly 17 talent points to use because not spending those 34 makes your character useless if you go down the dagger route).
